When measuring for draperies be sure to look for obstacles that may be in the way of your draperies such as heat vents, support beams, air conditioning units, counter tops,shelving units, etc. Take these things into consideration when taking measurements. In order for a drapery to be manufactured properly you will need to supply the following information:
Rod Width –The total width of rod measured from one end
Return – The measurement from the front of the rod back to the
Length – The
Type (Pair, Panel Left, Panel Right, or
Measuring an Existing Drapery
When measuring for existing draperies, measure across the top of the drapery from one end of the rod to the other. This is your width. Measure the distance from the front of the rod back to the wall to get the return measurement. And finally, measure the length of the drapery from the top of the pleated header to the bottom of the drapery.
To order a drapery, you will need to specify the drapery type. The type simply describes how the drapery will open. It will either split in the middle and draw back to each side (Pair), draw one way to the right (Panel Right), draw one way to the left (Panel Left), or does not move at all (Stationary Panel).
